- Description
- THIS PROJECT WILL BE ADVERTISED AS A TOTAL SMALL BUSINESS SET-ASIDE (COMPETITIVE.) ALL FIRMS QUALIFYING AS A SMALL BUSINESS UNDER THE 237310 NAICS CODE ARE ELIGIBLE TO BID. PLANS ARE ANTICIPATED TO BE AVAILABLE ON OR AFTER APRIL 28, 2014. This project is located in Forks of the Butte Recreation Area on Doe Mill Road. The project crosses rolling terrain in the western Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at an approximate average elevation of 2100 ft. This project consists of the reconstruction of Butte Creek Bridge, minor realignment of the bridge approaches, and rehabilitation of approximately 3.3 miles of Doe Mill Road, a narrow two lane gravel road, beginning at the eastern terminus at the BLM property line and ending at the intersection with Garland Road. This project will include minor grading, drainage, aggregate base, hot asphalt concrete pavement on the bridge approaches, bridge reconstruction, turf establishment, partial width traffic control, and road closure at the bridge throughout construction. This project will require approximately 27,500 lb of reinforcing steel for the bridge, 95,000 lb of structural steel for the bridge, 140 CUYD of structural concrete at the bridge, 800 cubic yards of earthwork including rock blasting; 100 LNFT of rock bolts; 11,000 tons of aggregate base; 130 tons of hot asphalt concrete pavement; and 500 feet of pipe. The project consists of one schedule and two options in the package. The second option completes work at West Branch Feather River Bridge. This work would include the removal and replacement of 270 SQYD of glulam bridge deck; 405 LNFT of timber bridge railing; and reconstruction of 1 pipe culvert. This project is located in a challenging and highly sensitive BLM location. The existing gravel roads are in poor condition, with ruts and dips exceeding 1' in depth. They will need to be graded prior to mobilization. Tight curves with radii < 50' on the west end of the project will make access for construction vehicles challenging. Cranes will need access to both sides of the proposed bridge to set the steel girders. West Branch Feather River Bridge is located near the Butte Creek Bridge project. The existing gravel roads are in poor condition, with ruts and dips exceeding 1' in depth. They will need to be graded prior to mobilization. The existing load rating of the bridge may be too low for construction equipment to cross the bridge during construction. The route is open all year with an average daily traffic count of approximately 158 vehicles. Great attention to detail will be required in achieving customer satisfaction in areas of bridge construction, traffic control and timely completion of work. It is anticipated that this project will be advertised in late April 2014 with construction occurring from mid June through mid November, 2014. The contracting range for this project is between $2 million and $3.5 million.
