- Description
- The Supervisory Regional Development Outreach and Communications Advisor (SRDOCA) reports to the Director of the USAID/Southern Africa (USAID/SA) Regional Program and Projects Development Office (RPPDO) and works closely with USAID/SA and U.S. Embassy leadership and staff to implement development outreach and communications efforts to increase awareness of USAID assistance programs in the following operating units: South Africa, South Africa Regional, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland. S/he leads the Development Outreach and Communications (DOC) team based at the USAID/SA Mission in Pretoria, which at full strength comprises a team of four. The SRDOCA will also be expected to mentor, train, and prepare USAID/SA's Foreign Service National (FSN) Senior DOC Specialist to take over leadership of the DOC team after a period of between two to three years. The SRDOCA liaises with the U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section (PAS) to ensure consistency in messaging and strong coordination between USAID and other United States Government (USG) colleagues under the U.S. foreign assistance umbrella. The SRDOCA also serves as a ‘translator' of complex USAID processes (e.g. budget, procurement, project design, etc.) to the broader interagency audience to ensure the intricacies of those process are conveyed to the final recipient whether it's a journalist, the Ambassador, or a visiting Congressional Delegation. Washington-based offices requiring close contact and coordination include the Africa Bureau and the Bureau for Legislative and Public Affairs (LPA). The position will also coordinate with other interagency and implementing partners. The SRDOCA will manage the full range of public information and outreach activities in support of USAID programs and objectives in South Africa, Southern Africa Regional Programs, Namibia, Swaziland, Botswana, and Lesotho, targeting information to specific audiences in both the US and the SADC region in accordance with the Mission's Country and Regional Development Cooperation Strategies, PEPFAR Country and Regional Operating Plans (COPs) and evolving circumstances.
