Description

AGAR SPECS for vendor reference The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)/Animal Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS)/Plant, Protection and Quarantine (PPQ), Facility in Sarasota, FL intends to negotiate a sole source award to Marcor Development Corp for the purchase of 1,000kg of Agar - Agar FCC 1300GR, which is needed immediately for the continuation of their Mediterranean Fruit Fly Emergence and Release Program This procurement is being conducted in accordance with FAR 6.302-1 Authority 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) The product or services needed by the executive agency are available from only one responsible source and no other type of product or services will satisfy the needs of the executive agency Agar vendors may have several grade qualities of AGAR that are described by their ability to bond with water and their gel strength. These qualities of agar range from 600GR to 1300GR. The suggested strength for Emergence and Release Facilities (ERF) worldwide is the 1300GR. Almost all ERF's require the use of a 1300GR agar. This high-grade AGAR is not always available, depending on the Chinese kelp harvest, and not all AGAR vendors stock and supply this quality of AGAR. For several years now Marcor Development Corp has consistently been our best offeror time after time. Marcor Development Corp. Agar - Agar FCC 1300 GR works well for the APHIS/PPQ Sarasota, FL program and exceeds expectations. Agar - Agar FCC 1300 GR - Product is used in diet medium preparation for Mediterranean Fruit Flies. Medium ingredients are agar, preservative, sugar and water with AGAR being the key ingredient. The mission of the Sterile Insect Release Facility is the mass rearing of large numbers of Mediterranean fruit flies for sustained aerial release of sterile males in numbers great enough to outnumber the potential mating by wild males. Wild female insects mated with sterile males do not produce offspring. Supplies are needed immediately for continuation of the ERF project. In accordance with FAR 6.302-1; Supplies may be deemed to be available only from the original source in the case of a follow-on contract for continued development or production when it is likely that award to any other source would result in unacceptable delays in fulfilling the agency's requirements. This Notice of Intent is not a request for competitive proposals. No solicitation documents are available and telephone requests will not be honored. However, if a firm believes it can meet these requirements it must furnish information about its products and services to the Contracting Officer by 4:00pm. Mountain Time (CT) by April 30, 2014. Supporting evidence must be furnished in sufficient detail to demonstrate the ability to comply with the above requirement. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 325414, and the size standard is 500 Employees. Responses received after the response date and time or without the required information will be deemed nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered.
