- SYNOPSIS The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) will hold the 2014 DNDO Industry, Academia, and Lab Engagement Day (formerly known as "Industry Day") in Summer, 2014 in the Washington, DC area. This event will provide prospective vendors, universities, national laboratories, and federal collaborators an overview of DNDO's product acquisition priorities and long-term research and development (R&D) focus areas as they align to the Department's Global Nuclear Detection Architecture (GNDA) strategy. This year's event will focus on: •Facilitating dialogue between Government, Industry, Academia, and National Labs to promote technology solutions to homeland security challenges. •Encouraging relationships between Government, Industry, Academia, and National Labs which are mutually beneficial. •Understanding the detector market. •Promoting technology transition from Research and Development to Commercialization To further facilitate two-way dialogue, DNDO is considering, as part of this event, holding breakout sessions to strategically target smaller, more focused dialogues around some of the most challenging facets of R&D as they relate to DNDO's mission. The topics for these sessions have not yet been finalized. A candidate list is provided below. DNDO welcomes ideas and input from the community, and suggestions regarding these topics. If you would like to indicate interest in any of these sessions or are interested in contributing ideas for these sessions, please send this input or a brief description of your proposed session to DNDOIndustryDay@hq.dhs.gov by March 14th, 2014. The list of potential sessions currently includes: •Enhanced wide area search in a variety of scenarios, to include urban and highly cluttered environments. •Detection of special nuclear material even when heavily shielded. •Monitoring along challenging GNDA pathways, to include general aviation, small vessels, and in between ports of entry. •Prior Program Retrospective: What we learned, and what we still need. •Technology Transition and Commercialization Challenges. •Other topics TBD. The proposed agenda for this event is very ambitious, and we look forward to having everyone's participation for the full day of activities. COMMENTS, CLARIFYING QUESTIONS, AND RESPONSES Written comments, questions, suggestions and/or recommendations are encouraged. At any time after receipt of comments/questions, DNDO reserves the right to contact respondents for further clarification of the submittal. All releasable questions and answers will be posted to the Federal Business Opportunities website, along with all releasable information presented during the event. This announcement does not represent a contract, a promise to contract, or a commitment of any kind on the part of the Government. Send comments, questions, suggestions and/or recommendations to DNDOIndustryDay@hq.dhs.gov REGISTRATION Registration will be conducted in advance and is open to all interested parties. This is an UNCLASSIFIED event; security clearance visit requests are not required. Foreign nationals will be required to register a minimum of 30 days prior to the event. Information on registration as well as meeting site details will be posted at a later date. During registration, you will be able to do the following: 1. Provide us your publicly releasable information, including attendee names, affiliation, contact information, and a one sentence description of your interests in radiological/nuclear detection technologies to be distributed approximately one week before the meeting in order to facilitate networking opportunities, and to enable participants to set up one-on-one meetings with field experts. Participants will also have the option to opt out of sharing this information during registration. 2. Indicate your preferences (first and second choice) for the breakout sessions. 3. Indicate your intention to provide company marketing material or technology brochures (each vendor will be allotted two- 8 ½" X 11" areas on a table) 4. Describe technologies or prototypes you may have available and be willing to share with or loan to other companies, labs, or universities for cooperative research and development efforts or evaluation. 5. Access a list of local hotels and restaurants in the area of the conference. DISCLAIMER: The DNDO 2014 Industry Day does not indicate a promise or intention to issue a request for proposals, request for quotes, or follow up acquisition of any type. DNDO will not assume liability for costs incurred by attendees or for preparations, travel expenses or marketing efforts; therefore, vendors' expenses in response to this notice are not considered an allowable direct charge to the Government. Please send you comments, questions, suggestions, proposed breakout session topic areas and/or recommendations to DNDOIndustryDay@hq.dhs.gov
