Description
Midget Faded Rattlesnake Modeling The Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, Colorado State Office, Lakewood, Colorado has a requirement for Developing Predicitive Models for the Presence and Absence of Midget Faded Rattlesnakes (Crotalus organus concolor) Across their Range in Colorado. General Work Description Field work for this project, which was designed as a two-year study, was initiated in northwest Colorado in the summer of 2012 and is scheduled to conclude in 2014 (data was not collected during the 2013 field season). Data collected during these two field seasons will allow to fine tune the models to be a very effective tool for predicting the probability of occurrence of midget faded rattlesnakes across their range in Colorado. Staff will acquire GIS spatial layers of pertinent environmental variables (topography, climate, vegetation, etc.) across the midget faded rattlesnakes potential range in Colorado. They will then develop models of hibernacula presence for Colorado using the Wyoming occurrence data and any available Colorado occurrences (including data collected from the 2012 field season) to predict the probability of occurrence in Colorado. They will then validate those models with new data collected in Colorado. Once all of the validation data has been collected, the final validated models will be submitted to the BLM and training provided in their use for predicting the probability of occurrence of midget faded rattlesnake dens on a very fine scale across their range in Colorado. The requirement above will be satisfied through a sole source 8(a) purchase. For questions please contact Felicia Salazar at fsalazar@blm.gov.
