- Titanium Investment Casting Advice & Assistance: Request for Capabilities: The Rock Island Arsenal - Joint Manufacturing & Technology Center (RIA-JMTC) located in Rock Island, Illinois is seeking a contractor/company that would be willing to share their knowledge by providing advice & technical assistance in Titanium Investment Casting. Expertise is also required in producing the shells required for making castings from sand and investment casting molds by induction skull melting. (ISM). This would involve sharing best manufacturing practices from concepts to delivery. Contractors must meet the following capabilities. Please address these in your capability statement. We request initial submissions be no more than 2-3 pages. Capabilities: A broad experience in producing Titanium casting utilizing a 50-100 pound pour. Expertise with the operation of a Consarc-Brand Induction Skull Melting (ISM) furnace in the 50-100 pound range. Be knowledgeable in producing all aspects of the titanium casting process from raw material to final part storage. Have knowledge of titanium casting design, shrinkage in the casting process, alpha case development and removal, investment casting tool design and tree development, dewaxing and preheating of shells, pouring Titanium, removal of gating and chemical demilling. Experience mixing and application of slurry and stucco.
