Description
February 15, 2014 - Prebid meeeting and site visit -- CANCELLED -- to be rescheduled. FQ14008 RAILCAR LIFT REHABILITATION AND UPGRADES AT VARIOUS RAIL YARDS MD & VA Project Description A. The Contractor shall complete a series of rehabilitation and upgrade projects on Lifts and turntables in rail yard service and inspection shops at the Alexandria, New Carrollton, West Falls Church, Shady Grove and Branch Avenue rail yards. B. The Contractor shall obtain necessary permits, and work as necessary, perform designs and systems integration work, manage quality through the use of an effective and well-planned quality system, perform inspection and testing as necessary, and manage the safe construction and commissioning of the project. C. All materials, services and efforts necessary to achieve project completion and final acceptance, on or before project milestones, shall be the Contractor's sole responsibility. D. The project shall function as an integral part of, and be fully compatible with, the existing WMATA system. 1. Existing Car Hoist, Body Host, Truck Repair hoist and Motorized Turntables were manufacturing by Whiting Corporation. All equipment upgrades and/or replacements to be as manufactured by Whiting or approved equal. 2. Modernization of controls shall include a useful and easy to read display mounted in the main control console on a rugged pedestal at each lift. Redundant floor control stations will be eliminated from systems not equipped with body stands. 3. All turntable floor controls will be replaced with stand-up height pedestal mounted 3 button controls. Turntable sequence shall be controlled by the PLC in the MCC. Speed control, acceleration and deceleration shall be controlled by a Variable Frequency Drive in the MCC. 4. The Contractor shall perform required tests on car hoists, body hoists, truck repair hoists, motorized turntables and associated equipment as specified to verify safety features and proper operation. 5. The Contractor shall provide operation and maintenance manuals for the applicable equipment furnished by the Contract and operation and maintenance training for Authority personnel on the programmable logic controller (PLC) equipment furnished by the Contract as specified. 6. Receptacles on Hoists: All wiring will be routed through tunnels under the shop floor. 8. Compressed Air on Lifts: All lifts will be provided with compressed air. All work will be schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe, threaded, and will include couple fittings. All new compressed air piping is to be painted.
