- Description
- INDUSTRY DAY CONFERENCE FOR DISTRIBUTED BATTLE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Strategic Technology Office will host an Industry Day in support of DARPA's Distributed Battle Management (DBM) program on February 28, 2014 at the DARPA Conference Center, 675 North Randolph Street, Arlington, VA from 0830 to 1200. Check-in begins at 0730. The purpose of this conference is to provide information on the DBM program; promote additional discussion on this topic; and address questions about the program. PROGRAM OBJECTIVE AND DESCRIPTION: DARPA anticipates releasing a BAA for the DBM program to develop software decision aids to assist airborne battle managers and pilots with managing air-to-air and air-to-ground combat. Decision aids are needed to manage the increasing complexity of the systems under control (to include unmanned systems and disaggregated capabilities), the projected scale of the threat, and the need for robustness in an environment of degraded communications and platform attrition. The DBM decision aids will be integrated into on-board software and will help airborne battle managers and pilots maintain situation awareness, recommend tasks for platforms and systems, and generate detailed execution plans. This capability will enable execution of complex kill chains in real time, improve the speed of response, and keep workload manageable while maintaining positive human control. Research on battle management in the permissive environment has been on-going in academia and industry. DARPA believes that these efforts have sufficiently matured to permit the identification and selection of algorithms to meet the needs for decision aids. The challenge for the DBM program is to make the algorithms robust and reliable in realistic peer threat environments and to demonstrate them in virtual simulations and simulated combat (to include live fly demonstrations). REGISTRATION INFORMATION: Participants must register no later than close of business on February 24, 2014, by sending an email to DARPA-SN-14-16@DARPA.MIL with "Industry Day Registration" in the subject line. The email should include the attendee's first and last name, organization, country of citizenship, email address, and telephone number. A reply email confirming the registration will be sent. There is no registration fee for attending this conference. The Industry Day will be unclassified and open to the general public. Due to space limitations of the conference facility, attendance will be limited to the first 150 registrants, and no more than 3 representatives per organization. All attendees will be required to present government issued photo identification upon entry to the event. The conference is open to US citizens only. The Industry Day does not constitute a formal solicitation for proposals or proposal abstracts. Attendance is voluntary and is not required to propose to any potential related Broad Agency Announcements or potential research solicitations on this topic. DARPA will not provide reimbursement for any costs incurred to participate in this Industry Day.
