- USDA - Small Business Connections February 18th 9 am - 11:30 an Supporting Small Business: The BioPreferred Program USDA is charged with implementing a program designed to support the bioeconomy and to create new markets for agricultural commodities. the BioPreferred program was created in the 2002 Farm Bill, renewed in the 2008 Farm Bill, and is also part of the 2014 Farm Bill. The program has two parts: USDA designates biobased industrial products like cleaners, lubricants, bioplastics, etc. for preferred Federal procurement; and a consumer-facing voluntary USDA Certified Biobased Products label helps drive the larger market. Many of the over 3,000 companies affiliated with the BioPreferred program are small business. During the session you'll learn opportunities for small business, to include: * Explanation of the BioPreferred program, label and Federally preferred * Many of the existing companies in the BioPreferred program are small businesses * Biobased industry is expanding world-wide/statistics * Mandatory Federal procurement of biobased products which opens doors * USDA (Rural Development) offers loans and grants to help biobased entrepreneurs * Existing small business training on BioPreferred web-site for details Join us on February 18th to learn about the opportunities USDA has to engage small business with its BioPreferred Program. If your company sells biobased products, this session will be ideal for you to attend. There is no charge to attend, but PRE-REGISTRATION IS A MUST. To do so, please vist: www.usda.gov/osdbu and proceed to "Our Outreach Events" located on the left of the screen. Space is limited to 85 participants. If weather should become a factor the day of the event, please check with local news to verify if the Federal government is closed or delayed.
