- DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT A: Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. I. PURPOSE: This Market research is being conducted to determine commercially available U.S. made tools that fit the required capabilities identified in Section II below. All tool components shall meet or exceed the Aerospace Standards (AS) and where AS are unavailable, industrial quality tools are adequate substitute(s). Industrial is a term used for a tool with the aim of meeting or exceeding American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards in addition to any other tool specific description contained in the product descriptions. Industrial quality tools are used primarily by skilled professionals and technicians in the following areas: machine shops, automotive maintenance and repair facilities, aircraft maintenance and repair facilities, industrial automotive assembly plants, fleet maintenance facilities, and airline service facilities. The tools will be used for specialized applications in an environment of virtual constant use, (i.e. around-the-clock 8-hour shifts), with applications requiring high torque, low slippage and strict tolerances. Advertising or marketing literature that indicates professional grade or industrial quality, or merely stating that an item is professional grade or industrial quality, is insufficient and will not institute industrial quality. A claim that an item is manufactured to an industry consensus standard is also unsatisfactory to establish industrial quality. Industrial quality tools shall have verifiable marketplace acceptance. The Government's requirement of high quality tools is paramount to the maintainers performing battlefield repair for the effective and efficient execution of mission requirements. Recognizing that manufacturers have been designing and producing a variety of Industrial quality tools for years; the U.S. Army is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to gather information pertaining to your current practices. ATTENTION: Submission of any information in response to this Request for Information (RFI) is purely voluntary. This RFI is issued for information planning purposes only and does not constitute a solicitation or commit the Government to award a contract, now or in the future. This is not a request for proposal. Nothing shall be construed herein or through this research process to commit or obligate the Government to further action as a result of this research. No reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this announcement or any follow up information requests. Respondents to this RFI should not expect a response to their submission. Further information will be posted to this website if required and when available. All information submitted in response to this RFI shall become the property of the Government and will not be returned to the submitter. II.
