Description
The National Library of Medicine (NLM) intends to procure on a sole source basis with Jonathan A. Hill, Bookseller Inc, 325 West End Avenue, Suite 10B, New York City, New York, 10023-8143, a collection of rare historical veterinary books and manuscripts under authority of FAR 6-302-1. This procurement is being conducted under Simplified Acquisition Procedures in accordance with FAR Part 13.The North American Industry Classification System Code (NAICS) is 511130 (Book Publishers) and the business size standard is 500 employees. The National Library of Medicine is one of four national libraries in the United States and is the world's largest and most comprehensive medical library. The congressionally mandated mission of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) is, in part, to collect, organize and disseminate global literature related to both research in and practice of medicine and its related fields; and to provide reference and research assistance to aid in the exchange of scientific and other information important to the progress of medicine and to public health. NLM also has a congressional mandate to collect original literature and artifacts deemed of historic significance to scholars of medical history, many of which are one-of-a-kind. Millar in the Strand, 1755; [Sole Edition]. Maples, John. The new complete horse doctor...London. Printed for Alex Hogg, [ca. 1790]; [2nd Edition]. Merrick, William. The classical farrier. Exhibiting the whole anatomy of that noble animal the horse... London: Printed by J. Aspin, 1788; [1st Edition]. Newcastle, William Cavendish, Duke of. A general system of horsemanship in all it's branches... London: Printed for J. Brindley, 1743;[1st English Edition of this title]. Excellent copy; 2 vols. This huge book is one of the most beautiful and classic books on horsemanship published in the 18th century, but more importantly the second volume is entirely veterinary, being the only complete English translation of the classic work on equine anatomy by the French author Jean de Saunier. A compendious dictionary of the veterinary art: containing a concise explanation of the various terms used in veterinary medicine and surgery... London: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1817; [1st Edition]. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations. However all responses received no later than the closing date of this announcement will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within discretion of the government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
