Description
Figures 1-4 The U.S. Coast Guard Surface Logistics Center in Baltimore, MD is conducting market research to identify sources capable of replacing the figurehead of the Coast Guard's sailing vessel, EAGLE. Organizations having the expertise and required capabilities are invited to submit complete information discussing their ability to meet the below requirements; however, this is not a solicititation and proposals are not being requested at this time. The Coast Guard does not intend to pay for any information that is received. Responses shall be submitted no later than 16 January 2014. Responses must be concise and specific to the requirements mentioned below. Interested parties are requested to respond to the below Questionnaire. Background: The current figurehead is constructed of mahogany and hand laminated in gold leaf. It is extremely expensive and difficult to maintain. The Coast Guard would like to replace the current figurehead with a less expensive, but durable material while retaining the figurehead's distinctive appearance. Description: The figurehead is illustrated in Figures 1-4, attached. It is attached mechanically to the steel bow of the vessel. 1. Figurehead Dimensions: Tip to Shield 14'L Wings Both Sides 6" Thick X 6' High X 10' Long Body Top to Bottom 2' High Body Underside 2' Wide. 2. Marine Environment-Located on the bow the cutter, the figurehead is regularly exposed to the elements in a marine environment including, but not limited to: Ambient Temp Range of - 5° F to 105° F UV exposure from direct sunlight Salt Water including intermittent complete submersion and constant spray Questionnaire: Question 1: What alternative materials and coatings are available to replicate the EAGLE's figurehead that matches the nominal physical dimensions, detailed surface features, and coatings? Question 2: How will the figurehead be produced and constructed? Question 3: Approximately long will it take to fabricate and assemble the figurehead? Question 4: Can the figurehead be maintained with commonly available materials and without the requirement of proprietary maintenance techniques and tools? Question 5: What is the figurehead's anticipated service life given the marine environment in which it is exposed?
