- Description
- HVAC Chiller Overhaul Salt Lake City VAMC VA259-14-R-0062_1 Amendment Questions and Answers: The RFP states: "Service includes but limited to refrigerant recovery/restoration, motor overhaul, compressor rebuild, inspection all gears and seals, replace #2 chiller oil pump (#1 replaced this year), install new bearings and shaft seals with factory OEM parts totaling 8 of each, evacuate and recharge, perform start-up and check for proper operation." 1. Please clarify which bearings the VA wants replaced? There are four (4) main bearings - low speed front and rear, high speed front and rear, thrust bearings high speed forward and reverse, low speed forward and reverse, plus high speed and low speed thrust collars. All of these are in the assembly requiring removal for the rebuild and may be out of York OEM specification. York has a bearing kit for overhauls, part # 664-48646-000. There also is another bearing that is not part of the kit that could be changed, High speed reverse thrust, Part # 029-20898-002. 2. Which seals and O-rings are to be replaced? The count in the RFP suggests a total of eight (8) items with potentially four (4) being bearings and four (4) being seals or gaskets. A minimum replacement for each chiller is one (1) gasket and six (6) O-rings along with the bearing count given above. York has a gasket kit for overhauls # 664-48648-000. This kit includes all the gaskets and o-rings need to re-assemble the compressor. 3. What is meant by "rebuild" the motor? Does the VA want the motor re-wound, new bearings installed, bushings replaced, dipped and baked, and then a spin balance performed? Please clarify. Visual inspection, disassemble, perform internal mechanical inspection and electrical test battery, steam clean parts and dry stator and rotor. Treat winding with insulation resin and cure. Assemble motor with new bearings and parts. Set-up and perform a no load, full voltage run test and record a three vector vibration analysis. Paint motor and precision balance the rotor assembly. 4. Does the VA want to convert the chiller refrigerant from R-22 to environmentally friendly R-134A or is that beyond the scope of this request for proposal? Beyond the scope.
