- Description
- IAW FAR 8.405-6(b) Item peculiar to one manufacturer (e.g. brand name item, product, or feature of a product peculiar to one manufacturer, only JAVA SE software from Oracle will meet the Government's requirements. Global Command and Control System - Army (GCCS-A) is an enterprise command and control system that is developed using the Oracle distribution of the JAVA Runtime Environment (JRE) with portions hosted using the JAVA 2 Enterprise Environment (J2EE). The JRE, which includes the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), is used to run software written in Java by executing the Java bytecode created from compiling Java programs. GCCS-A uses the J2EE to deploy enterprise web applications supporting Joint-to-Army and Army-to-Joint interoperability. GCCS-A uses the JRE on all virtual servers, referred to as 'zones', hosting the various GCCS-A Server applications including: GCCS Family of Systems Alerting Infrastructure (GFAI) and associated web, Charting, Geolocation plotting service, Common Messaging Processor, Multi-Tactical Digital Information Links (TDIL) Capability, Theater Ballistic Missile Warning and Recording, Integrated Command, Control, Communications, Computers, & Intelligence (C4I) System Framework, External Transaction Manager Service, as well as for the client visualization applications for those services. In addition to the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA)-produced GCCS Server applications, GCCS-A uses the Oracle database software with Java dependencies for long term storage of tracked object locations, and for mediation between Army-internal communications, such as Data Dissemination System (DDS), and the GCCS Server applications. Java is the primarily development language within the GCCS-A enterprise and is thus an integral part of the software.
