The contract was awarded for $687,578 to cover performance during the base period from September 30, 2013 through September 29, 2014. This contract also has four (4) twelve-month option perids. AbleData is designed to provide information on aids and equipment used by persons with disabilities. The database also contains information on over 1,800 noncommercial prototypes including customized and one-of-a-kind products and device designs for do-it-yourself construction. The AbleData website is currently accessed by patrons in the US and abroad, with approximately 300,000 unique visitors from up to 120 countries each month. The Department of Education owns the database and continues to update and maintain the database via the AbleData contract. The target populations for AbleData shall include persons with disabilities and their families; practitioners; educators of rehabilitation professionals and their students; rehabilitation researchers; manufacturers and vendors of rehabilitation products; third-party payers; employers, disability organizations and advocates; personnel of agencies serving persons with disabilities; national, state, and local rehabilitation agencies and facilities, both public and private; independent living centers and similar organizations; NIDRR and other federal agencies; and the general public. The objective of this procurement is to continue the operation of AbleData for the purpose of providing valid and useful information on assistive technology devices (descriptions, availability, manufacturers, distributors, publications, etc.) to anyone who needs such information and to conduct related activities necessary to support this endeavor. AbleData's products and services must be accessible to everyone. The AbleData web site shall be in full compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act 1998 (information can be found at http://www.section508.gov). Publications, as well as database search results, must be available in alternative formats such as large print, Braille, and electronic formats that are compatible with screen readers.
