Description
Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) is conducting ongoing research and development into advanced heat exchanger technologies that have the potential to increase the performance and/or reduce the size, fabrication time, and cost of heat exchangers A novel type of heat exchanger and fabrication methodology recently developed at SNL could meet these requirements, and has potential for use in a variety of applications including power and refrigeration cycles, heat pumps, and oil, gas and chemical processing. This concept allows for increased primary and secondary surface heat transfer with minimal increase in pressure drop The fabrication methodology could dramatically reduce lead-time and costs, as compared with the current state of the art units. Sandia's primary focus is in seeking a company or companies interested in partnering opportunities leading to construction and manufacturing of this technology. Partnerships may take the form of Cooperative Research & Development Agreements (CRADA), or Work for Others (WFO) agreements. Interested companies are preferred but not required to have experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: • Fabrication techniques common to the manufacturing of heat exchangers such as plate forming, mechanical and electrochemical machining, welding of stainless steels and nickel alloys, brazing, diffusion bonding, etc. •Design and manufacture of vessels to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Section VIII requirements. •Design for manufacturability. In addition, potential partners must have a significant interest in developing this technology since the CRADA or WFO is expected to include funds-in to Sandia from the partner. Sandia is a multiprogram laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company, for the United States Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration under Contract DE-AC04-94AL85000. For further information, please respond to Gary Rochau at Sandia National Laboratories by email GEROCHA@SANDIA.GOV or by FAX 505-284-4276.
