Description
The Portable x-ray equipment is required for this acquisition. Mostportable x-ray systems have three main components: (1) the x-ray tube, (2) high voltage power supply and (3) control unit. The x-ray tube houses the cathode "negative terminal" and the anode "positive terminal" under a high vacuum. A high voltage power supply is an important component of an X-ray generation system. The filament uses a relatively small voltage supply to cause small currents to generate free electrons, while the anode of the tuberequires a large positive charge volt for the acceleration of the electrons. This is accomplished by using a transformer and supplies the proper voltages to the filament and anode. The MIL-PRF-32133 standard requires all high voltage transformers to be contained in the tube-head case. When the electrons collide with the tungsten anode, a nuclear event occurs which generates x-rays. The Control Unit is required to control the energy and intensity of the radiation being generated. The three principle controls to a standard X-ray system are: (1) the current (mA) control, (2) the voltage (kV) control, and (3) a timer. Portable X-ray generators are used for inspection of test objects either impossible or very difficult to transport safely. This equipment is used to inspect nondestructive inspection (NDI) of aircraft structure, engines, and support equipment across the Air Force, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserves.
