Description

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) proposes to negotiate and award a sole source purchase order to Aspen Systems, Inc. (2900 Youngfield St. Wheat Ridge, CO 80033) for an upgrade to some of the existing high performance computer nodes within its Linux cluster system with the purpose of adding additional computing power and storage capacity. The purpose of the upgrade to this cluster is to allow the NRC's Office of Regulatory Research (RES) with the ability to model fluid flows and heat transfer using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software in a more efficient manner. Upgrade to this system may only be performed by Aspen Systems, Inc because the software used to operate the cluster is proprietary to Aspen Systems, Inc. That system will be maintained for a few more years for use by NRC staff. The authority to restrict competition for this simplified acquisition to the specified Aspen Systems brand name is FAR 13.106-1 (b).
