- RFI Text Cover Synopsis: The purpose of this request is to inform a national strategic approach to address the environmental challenge represented by a growing quantity of solid waste made up of outmoded or obsolete electronics hardware, consumables, media materials and accessories. These items include inkjet and laser printer cartridges, cell phones, computer hardware, peripherals, compact discs, DVDs, jewel cases, cassette tapes, floppy disks, video tapes and other media accessories as well as other household electronics. The USPS is seeking information for use in developing a solution to this problem. Responses should describe a turnkey end-to-end solution that results in environmentally acceptable disposal of these items via transportation to a recycling, re-manufacturing, or de-manufacturing facility. Responses should focus on a method through which consumers and small businesses could safely and effectively recycle their obsolete materials in the most convenient and cost-effective manner possible. Responses should address marketing and promotional methods to communicate potential solutions to the public and describe how the concept would support the financial and corporate citizenship objectives of the USPS. NOTE: This is a Sources Sought (SS) and a Request for Information (RFI) to identify potential companies (sources) and best practices. This request is for planning purposes only. This sources sought does not constitute a solicitation and there is no guarantee a formal solicitation will be issued by the United States Postal Service as a result of responses to this RFI. The Government does not intend to award a contract based on this SS/RFI or otherwise pay for information solicited. Please identify any proprietary information submitted.
