- Description
- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY ANNOUNCES INTEREST IN SUPPORTING American Companies Seeking to Improve Their Global Competitiveness through the Use of High Performance Computing (HPC) Technologies Opportunity : Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) operated by the Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC (LLNS) under Contract No. DE-AC52-07NA27344 (Contract 44) with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is a national security laboratory managed as a government-owned, contractor-operated (GOCO), federally funded research and development center (FFRDC). LLNL expertise and capabilities are available on a nonexclusive basis subject to DOE requirements and priorities, and subject to complementary research interests with LLNL. As an FFRDC, LLNL will be bound by fairness of opportunity requirements and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs). LLNL's new "Vulcan" supercomputer is now available for collaborative projects. A portion of Vulcan's 5 petaflops of performance capability has been allocated for engagements with U.S.-based companies through LLNL's HPC Innovation Center in support of LLNL's national security mission to: •· * boost American competitiveness •· * accelerate advances in science and technology •· * develop the country's HPC-skilled workforce. The HPC Innovation Center connects companies with LLNL's computational scientists and engineers, computer scientists and supercomputer access to help solve high-impact problems across a broad range of scientific, technological and business fields. As projects of interest are defined and initiated, the HPC Innovation Center rapidly assembles teams of experts and HPC systems to develop, prove and deploy transformative solutions for sponsoring companies, drawing upon decades of investment in HPC systems, technologies and expertise at LLNL, as well as expertise and technologies from LLNL's external ecosystem partners. The three-dimensional (3D) simulations scaled to run on petascale supercomputers such as Vulcan have the potential to greatly increase insight into complex systems and technologies; as well as reduce the time and cost of new product design and development cycles. HPC similarly can bring greater efficacy and savings to business systems requiring the management of enormous data sets. The HPC Innovation Center engages with companies on turn-key, HPC-based projects through Work-for-Others contracts, and on collaborative projects through Federal Government Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs). Proprietary work is supported, on demand. Parties interested in working with LLNL in this effort should provide a written statement of interest, which includes the following: 1. Company name and address. 2. The name, address, telephone number, and email of a point of contact. 3. A description of corporate expertise, experience and facilities relevant to this technical topic area. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Attn: Jeff Wolf Chief Business Development Officer HPC Innovation Center wolf28@llnl.gov
