- Description
- FY13 Northwest Michigan College, Traverse City, MI, Section 107 Breakwater Repairs. This project is 100% Small Business set-aside. The North American Industrial Classification system (NAICS) Code applicable to this requirement is 237990 (other heavy and civil engineering construction). The small business size standard for this requirement is less than $33,500,000.00 in average annual receipts. The range of construction is between $1,000,000.00 and $5,000,000.00. It is anticipated that the contract will be awarded in August 2013. Contract work consists of, but is not limited to marine construction and dredging at Northwest Michigan College located in Traverse City, MI on the south end of Grand Traverse Bay. Approximately 3,500 cubic yards of deteriorated timber crib structure, fill and broken concrete/rubble will need to be removed. The marine construction consists of an approximate 210-foot long by 22-foot wide anchored, double walled steel sheet pile (SSP) breakwater with a 15" thick reinforced concrete cap. The crest elevation will be at +7.0 feet above Low Water Datum (LWD, 577.5 feet, IGLD85) and the tip elevation approximately at -36.5 feet below LWD. Soil borings have shown medium dense to dense sand and embedment depths of the double walled SSP will be over 20 feet. The double walled SSP will be Grade 50 steel. Ten (10) mooring cleats will need to be placed. 50 linear feet of cantilevered SSP wall with a steel cap will also need to be constructed. The crest elevation of this wall will be +7.0 feet above LWD. Embedment of the cantilever wall will be over 30 feet and the steel will be Grade 60. Approximately 1,100 tons of 700-1200 lb scour stone will be required to be placed. Approximately 16,000 cubic yards of medium dense to dense sand will be required to be dredged to a depth of -16.0 below Low Water Datum. Work and storage areas are limited at the project site, thereby requiring the work to be marine based.
