- Description
- RECOVERY - THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION (SSA) FUNDED THIS PROPOSED ACTION BY THE AMERICAN REINVESTMENT AND RECOVERY ACT (ARRA). THE AGENCY PROVIDES THIS NOTICE FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. This opportunity is available only to SSA's existing Direct Access Storage Device (DASD) equipment contract with EMC Corporation of McLean, VA, under the single-award Contract Number SS00-10-60053. SSA awarded this contract using Full and Open Competition for the acquisition of mainframe and open system enterprise disk data storage, storage area network switches, storage management software and support services. SSA intends to issue a firm-fixed price (FFP) Task Order under the DASD contract pursuant to the fair opportunity procures of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Section 16.505. This Task Order includes additional capacity upgrades for the agency's existing EMC storage equipment. These upgrades include the agency's EMC VMAX subsystems V14 and V64 and expanding the storage capacity to 960 Terabytes (TB). SSA has these subsystems at its primary data centers located strategically throughout the United States. Moreover, we intend to purchase storage de-duplication equipment. EMC's Data Domain DD640 de-duplication appliance specializes in eliminating redundant data and improving storage utilization. In the de-duplication process, the appliance deletes duplicate data, leaving only one copy of the data to be stored, along with references to the unique copy of data. De-duplication is able to reduce the required storage capacity since only the unique data is stored. Currently, the compressed data stored on these devices return an average of 27 TB to 1 TB. We intend to use data de-duplication in our data center in Maryland. This notice is for INFORMATION ONLY; Contractors should not respond.
