- Description
- Project Work is divided into a base and two options which includes constructing a beach berm to an elevation +7.4 feet with a varying berm width. A permitted offshore borrow area for the project is located approximately 4 miles southeast of the project site. Due to the extensive hard ground areas located offshore of the fill template area, offshore pipeline access to the beach site is prohibited. The Contractor will operate the off-loading from inside the South Jetty of Fort Pierce Inlet, FL. Staging area and beach access to the project fill area is located at the end of Seaway Drive also near the south jetty offloading area. Because of environmental fill restrictions within the project (Refer to Specification ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION for further details), base work will begin fill operations at R-37 which is 3,000 feet south of the Fort Pierce Jetty and work southward for another 4,000 feet (R-41). The contractor will then retreat fill operations at the South jetty and start fill operations at the south jetty and complete base work at R-35. Option 1 will place beach quality material between R-35 and T-36 and Option 2 will place material between T-36 and R-37. Base and optional work also includes but is not limited to endangered species observers, sea turtle non-capture trawl sweeping, turbidity monitoring, beach tilling, and construction/vibration controls and monitoring.
