- Description
- Fermi Research Alliance LLC (FRA), operator of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (hereinafter called Fermilab), has issued this Request for Information (RFI) in furtherance of Fermilab's Prime Contract No. DE-AC02-76CH11359 with the United States Department of Energy (DOE). Please express your interest in responding to this RFI. Scope: We are in the Preliminary Design phase of this project with the anticipated procurement of needed equipment to happen ~ 2019. What is important for our planning stage is to understand the ability of vendors to potentially meet our needs while understanding most specifically the physical measurements/requirements of vendor's solutions. Most important, we need to work with Civil Facilities engineers for this Project now and provide a footprint for space requirements as well as both electrical power and cooling water needs. The following bullet points highlight the main questions for which we are seeking information. • Basic diagram of system to be provided to meet the need outlined in attachment. • Equipment space needs for major equipment items including equipment layouts o Identify if there are any special requirements of any pieces of equipment, e.g., special foundations o Provide sizes and weights of major pieces of equipment • Electrical power and cooling water requirements for compressors or ancillary systems • Provide a summary of major equipment which can be outside (heavy snow possible) • Available sustained operating range of a refrigeration system (min-max LN2 cooling power) • Cost in FY2013 dollars o Further, we are interested in your input and comments on any potential technical difficulties posed by load operational requirements and any of the requirements that adversely affect cost (act as cost drivers). Please identify those items and suggest alternatives whenever possible. o Please also provide an estimated timeline from your perspective to identify long lead times for equipment proposed to satisfy our needs. • Comments on any similar projects (references) that we may be able to visit to better understand the systems and their operation/reliability. Additional useful information • Quantity of LN2 needed to start and commission one refrigeration system • LN2 flow range (S1 on figure 2) needed to commission one refrigeration system • Time needed to start standby refrigeration unit from warm state (ambient temperature) • Estimate of time needed for a refrigeration system to ramp up from min to max • Estimate of time needed for a refrigeration system to ramp down from max to min • Normal required maintenance and maintenance periods Additional details are provided for in the attachment.
