- Description
- The Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), Materials Technology (TM) Directorate, Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, is hosting a " Small Business Open House," on 5 Jun 2013. This event will be open for Large Businesses as well. The primary purpose of this Small Business Open house is to provide the Small Business community with an opportunity to hear the mission of AFTAC/TM. Large businesses looking to utilize small businesses for subcontracting or teaming opportunities are welcome to attend. The Air Force Technical Applications Center is the sole DoD agency operating and maintaining a global network of nuclear event detection sensors called the U.S. Atomic Energy Detection System (USAEDS). Once the USAEDS detects an event underground, underwater, in the atmosphere, or in space, AFTAC analysts review the event for nuclear identification and report their findings to national decision-makers through Headquarters Air Force. AFTAC/TM Directorate provides scientific and technical support for AFTAC's nuclear treaty monitoring mission. Efforts include collection and analysis of gases and particulate debris, evaluation of resultant data, atmospheric modeling. TM supports the radionuclide portion of the USAEDS mission to monitor global nuclear treaty compliance and conducts advanced research focused on identifying improved monitoring and analysis techniques. Collection, analysis, and evaluation methodologies associated with or indicative of nuclear testing are studied. This activity supports AFTAC's nuclear test ban treaty monitoring and nonproliferation research and development detection technology missions. TM's capabilities are leveraged by the National Technical Nuclear Forensics (NTNF), an interdepartmental effort to aid in the attribution of a nuclear event.
