- Construct and install elevated water tanks with towers adjacent to new water closet WC latrines to be constructed by U.S. engineers at both of the following two (2) sites: El Tamarindo 2 rooms school: LAT/LONG N 13o 43 quote mark 53.7 quote mark W 090o 05' 32.8 quote mark Las Marillas 3 rooms school: LAT/LONG N 13o 37' 10.7 quote mark W 089o 50' 51.7 quote mark Specifications for each water tank: 1. Contractor shall provide a water tower to withstand the static and dynamic loads of a 1,100 liter water tank filled to capacity together with the weight of a 250 lbs person. Water tower shall also withstand 177 km/hr (110 mph) wind loads and a zone 4 earthquake. 2. Water tower shall be fabricated of steel angles and/or rectangular steel tubes as shown in Figures 1 to 3. The adequacy of the tower structural member, exact member location, and final construction of the tower shall be validated by a locally certified structural engineer. Tower height shall be at least 12.5ft (3.8 m) from base to platform to provide a water pressure of at least 5.5 psi. The leg shall be anchored into concrete base and shall extend into the concrete base at least two feet. Water tower top platform shall have a 3/16 in. steel plate. Tower shall have a 2 ft wide steel ladder to provide maintenance to water tank. Ladder steps shall be spaced every 1 ft. Steps shall provide skid resistant surface/finish. 3. A 3,000 psi concrete shall be used for the four bases. Base shall be designed to support tower weight, wind and seismic loads as described in 2.1. The base shall be 6 inches above ground and shall be finished to drain water out of the steel legs (i.e. down slope shall be provided). Storage tank shall be on level platform and secured as described in section 2.5. 4. Contractor shall paint the tower applying one coat of primer and two coats of anti-corrosive paint. Anti-corrosive paints shall match local school colors. 5. Contractor shall secure 1,100 water tank to the tower top platform using 3/8 in. galvanized eye-bolt 2 quote mark long, 3/8 quote mark x 6 quote mark galvanized jaw & jaw turnbuckle, 1/4 quote mark galvanized thimble, 7x19 1/4 quote mark diameter galvanized wire cable, and 1/4 quote mark double saddle U-bolt wire clip. The anchoring system set up shall be similar to set up in Figure 4. The Contractor shall use at least two anchoring system crossing each other, which shall comply with design loads described in 2.1. 6. Contractor shall provide schedule 40 PVC connection lines from site's water supply lines to the storage tank and from the storage tank to supply water to the latrine/clinic. Contractor shall provide plumbing lines, fittings and accessories, to include a float valve in each tank in order to prevent water from overflowing beyond its capacity and a backflow preventer and isolation valve in the water service supply line in order to prevent water tank from draining back into the main water service supply line. Contractor shall dig trenches for lines installation. Contractor shall test the system to ensure it is working properly without any leaks. Period of performance: 30 days Location: El Salvador, C.A.
