- Description
- Description: This is a Request For Information (RFI) in regards to a NAVAIR requirement for a commercially available Blowing Sand & Dust Chamber intended for testing of Naval aircraft/shipboard/ground electrical or mechanical components and systems. NAVAIR Lakehurst, NJ seeks potential sources and no cost product information of commercially available sand & dust chamber. This RFI is for planning purposes and information only and should not be construed as a solicitation for applications or an obligation on the part of the government. The government will not pay for the preparation of any information submitted or for the government's use of that information. Background The chamber will provide controlled environments during testing of Naval aircraft/shipboard/ground electrical or mechanical components and systems. The predominant test methods will come from MIL-STD-810 and for sand and dust environments. The results of the testing are used for Naval qualification, safety of flight, flight worthiness, and evaluation programs. Specifications for the chamber are as followed: • Chamber Capable of meeting/exceeding the requirement stated in MIL-STD-810G, Method 510.5, Procedure I (Blowing Dust) and Procedure II (Blowing Sand) • Maximum Allowable Chamber Size: 25' Long x 15' Wide x 15' High • Minimum Chamber Test Section Area: 27 ft³ (min. 3' in all dimensions) • Controlled Parameters: Temperature (+15 to +93 °C), Humidity (maintain less than 30%), Dust Concentration (variable between 0 g/m³ and 25 g/m³ min), Sand Concentration (variable between 0 g/m³ and 3 g/m³ min) • Air Cooled Refrigeration Package w/standard sight glasses and heater safeties/interlocks. • The fan/blower speed shall be variable between 0 and 5700 feet per minute minimum measured at the test section area. • Sand/Dust injection point must be at least 10' from the test section area to assure dust/sand particles are up to the proper velocity. • Compatible with various dust compositions including silica flour and red China clay with particle sizes up to 150 µm in diameter. • Compatible with various sand compositions including silica with particle sizes from 150 µm to 850 µm in diameter. • Dust concentration tolerance: ± 7 g/m³ when the typical 10.6 g/m³ is used for the set point • Sand concentration tolerance: ± 0.5 g/m³ at a set point concentration of 2.2 g/m³, ± 0.3 g/m³ at a set point concentration of 1.1 g/m³, -0.0/+0.2 g/m³ at a set point concentration of 0.18 g/m³ • Fully welded stainless steel chamber section area • A single hinged door that opens a minimum of 95° with a lockable latch • Scratch resistant windows on the chamber door and opposite side. The windows shall be in line with one another and be provided with a wiper/provision to clean the inside of the glass. • Interior lighting that does not protrude into the useable chamber space • Two (2) four inch access ports located on the door/chamber's front side with caps or covers that do not protrude into the test section area • The chamber shall be able to support a test item weighing a minimum of 200 lbs • Sensors/Transducers for: temperature, humidity, air velocity, dust/sand concentration must be readily accessible and able to be calibrated by the sensor manufacturer or other qualified calibration lab within the United States • Data acquisition system to digitally record temperature, humidity, air velocity and dust/sand concentration versus time. Collected data shall be easily downloaded into a standard spreadsheet. • Chamber shall operate on 480VAC/3PH/60Hz input power (200A max) • Compressed air usage (externally supplied with a dew point of -40 °F) shall be less than 100 CFM at 100 PSI • Standard safety interlocks to assure the chamber door cannot be opened while under test • Provisions to easily clean the chamber by collecting the dust/sand media between tests • Chamber to be supplied with hard and soft copies of mechanical/refrigeration schematics and electrical wiring diagrams • Chamber to be installed on a flat, 5" thick reinforced concrete floor • Include installation and applicable system training Information Requested: Information in the following area will assist NAVAIR Lakehurst in the development of its procurement strategy. Qualified vendors should provide the following: Rough Order of Magnitude Pricing Warranty Information Delivery Timeframes
