Description
THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO. 2 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR A VACUUM HEAT TREATMENT FURNACE. Companies shall acknowledge all amendments in their quote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to answer questions generated by vendors in response to this RFQ. QUESTION 1. Please clarify the size and requirements on the equipment. ANSWER 1. Minimum size of hot zone 12' x 12' x 24' to a maximum of 24' x 24' x 36' with a load capacity of 1000 lbs. QUESTION 2. Can you specify the exact working size of the furnace? ANSWER 2. SEE answer 1 above.. QUESTION 3. Specify a gas cooling size and pressure requirement? ANSWER 3. We use argon as a gas. Quench at a rate of 6 to 10 bar, or 100 degrees F per minute is acceptable. QUESTION 4. What is the power available, Voltage 23 degrees or 460 volt 3 phase? ANSWER 4. The Center has whatever power is needed at its disposal. QUESTION 5. Are there any material construction preferences, maximum heat required, are you looking for drypumps or is a rotary piston/booster combination acceptable? The booster will block backstreaming but a drypump is an option at a higher cost with higher cost of ownership? ANSWER 5. Standard operating temperature range of 1000 degrees F - 2400 degrees F (538 degrees C - 1315 degrees C). Mechanical pump sufficient to serve the chamber size for primary vacuum/roughing and a high-speed diffusion pump with a holding pump to maintain vacuum on foreline and diffusion pump for obtaining and maintaining a vacuum level of at least 5 x 10-5 and eliminate backstreaming. QUESTION 6. Minimum size of 12' x 12' x 24' to a maximum of 24' x 24' x 36' with a load capacity of 1000 pounds maximum. Does this mean that any furnace size that may fall between these dimensions is acceptable (example: 16 x 16 x 24)? Or, must the system fit the maximum size stated? Also does this mean any load capacity rating up to 1000 lbs. is acceptable? ANSWER 6. The size may fall within these dimensions and any load rating up to 1000 lbs. is acceptable. QUESTION 7. Do you require a real-time paper type process recorder? ANSWER 7. Ability to record digitally is acceptable as long as ample memory is available. QUESTION 8. Inert gas quench capabilities. For Argon or Nitrogen or both? What maximum quench pressure is required (2 bar, 6 bar, 10 bar, etc.)? ANSWER 8. We use argon as a gas. Quench at a rate of 6 to 10 bar, or 100 degrees F per minute is acceptable. QUESTION 9. Due to repeatability, typically, type X thermocouples are provided for control and over temperature. Type K or N (customer choice) is used for workload survey type functions. Would this be acceptable? ANSWER 9. Yes, type S for control and using type K for workload. QUESTION 10. Who has responsibility to install the system? Where will it be installed? ANSWER 10. Installation, training and preliminary testing are the responsibility of the supplier or their agent. Installation will be at NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center, Building 4618, Huntsville, Alabama. The due date for receipt of offers is not extended.
