- Description
- Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Boston, MA (NCO1 Contracting) has a requirement for MRI analysis services as part of a research study (not for patient treatment). An indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract for 36 months is anticipated. Services are to be provided in Boston, MA. Interested persons with technical and logistical capabilities may contact the Contract Specialist via email only regarding this procurement and may identify capabilities for providing services of this kind. Contract Specialist: Cheri K. Wicks, cheri.wicks@va.gov. All contractors are required to be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) (www.sam.gov). Contractors should complete On-Line Representations and Certifications at this same site. Consult your State Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) for technical assistance with these requirements. (http://www.dla.mil/db/procurem.htm) Services provided by the contractor for: image collection and analysis of morphometric and diffusion tensor image (DTI) data, assist in the correlational analysis of these data with behavioral and physiological data, assist in the training of study staff. ITEM 1. Consultation for MRI imaging and analysis. Services are to include: a)MRI scanning (image collection) of participants. These participants will include at-risk groups (cerebrovascular and dementia), individuals with alcoholism, and individuals with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. The contractor will also assist in the image collection of subjects with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The contractor has access to the MRI scanner at the VA Boston Healthcare System (a Siemens Trio scanner), where MRI scanning will take place. b)Morphometric analysis using Freesurfer software: This will include converting image files from DICOM format (on the scanner) to a Linux workstation in preparation for analysis. The contractor will use "Freesurfer" software to reconstruct the images and to extract segmented subcortical volume structures as well as cortical parcellation data. c)Diffusion tensor image analysis: This will include obtaining metrics of the integrity of white matter pathways in the brain. d)Developing automated routines for assessing reliability of these tools: This will include conducting reliability analyses to ensure that automated segmentation and parcellation procedures were completed correctly and accurately. e)Assisting in the development and advancement of these software tools: This will specifically include the development of tools for longitudinal, repeated measures analysis of imaging data, a critical feature to detecting change in patients with cerebrovascular and dementia risk, alcoholism, traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder. f)Integrating morphometric and DTI data with neuropsychological and physiological data: This will include providing consultation in the merging of databases and in interpreting correlations between these data. g)Training study staff (i.e., research assistants) in collecting scans and in preparing images for analysis (unpacking and converting images from DICOM format to readable image files for "Freesurfer" analysis). h)Milestones/goals to be reached with this contractor for this contracting period include: a.Image data collection for as many participants as possible (item (a)). b.Recently hired research assistants will be fully trained by October, 2013 (item (g)) and any new assistants will be trained as quickly as possible to facilitate no interruption in data collection and analysis. c.Image data on current participants will be fully pre-processed by October 2013 (item (b)). d.Data analyses (morphometric and diffusion tensor imaging) on current participants will be completed by October, 2013 (items (b), (c), and (f)). e.Any changes to the software will be immediately integrated into the techniques in place for this research project and the contractor will consult with investigators at the Martinos Center if needed (item (e). Note: Any shift in personnel would compromise the reaching of these milestones and therefore in the successful completion of this research project by its end. Such a shift would also jeopardize the reliability and validity of the techniques listed above.
