Summary of Scope of Work: To improve out-migrating fish passage at Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River, an Adjustable Spillway Weir (ASW) will be fabricated and installed. The ASW will be a steel structure installed in a spillway bay that effectively raises the crest elevation of the spillway, allowing juvenile salmon and steelhead to pass the dam near the water surface under lower accelerations and lower pressures than conventional spillway gate openings, providing a safe and efficient passage route over the dam. The ASW will incorporate a mechanical method to adjust the height of the weir crest allowing a variable discharge rate. The system will also include some means of shutting off/turning on flow. It is anticipated that the total weight of the component structures will be in the range of 180 to 230 tons. The government expects to award a contract in August or September of 2013 and require the ASW to be fabricated, installed and operational by mid-March of 2014.
