Description
To provide a fully functional and operational training center for USAID's employee's USAID requires the brand name A/V equipment that integrates with the current USAID training center infrastructure. An A/V design package was provided by USAID's A/V contractor Design Firm. It contained a total A/V solution that took into account products that would be compatible with the existing A/V equipment within the USAID inventory and also be compatible with USAID's A/V cabinetry. Basically, in designing a fully functional turn-key A/V solution, contracgtor selected component parts that are compatible with one another in order to ensure 100% reliability of the system. While some of the parts appear to be simple, their dimensions, wire connectors, weight bearing capacity and other features make them critical components of a functional system. Replacing these parts would have a ripple effect and other more sophisticated components would have to be switched. This will result in a system not compliant with USAID's existing systems and cabinetry. With respect to the cabinetry, Middle Atlantic offers A/V cabinets that are finished in wood panels that can be matched to most solid wood furniture and for that reason are desirable and costly. These cabinets have pre-drilled grommets and pre-installed fans that cool the A/V equipment. In addition to the previously mentioned effects on the technical components, replacing parts would force the replacement of the Middle Atlantic cabinets or require prohibitive alterations to the cabinets, which would also void the warranties. Essentially, the A/V solution was designed with specific products in mind and any alteration could negatively affect the A/V system's functionality and jeopardize the product warranties. USAID will coordinate the integration of its newly purchased training center furniture with the A/V equipment to complete it new training center Market Research was performed by USAID's A/V contractor design firm. The products selected were the only available products that could meet the requirements for USAID's A/V solution. The market research substantiates the products being essential to the A/V solution. Cost savings are realized by using identical components and reducing the burden of maintaining multiple technologies.
