Description
NASA/GRC has a requirement to procure the services of fabricating (6) six partially infiltrated SiC/SiC composite panels 6-inch x 9-inch x 0.08-inch by chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) process. Task: Cut NASA supplied SiC cloth into 6x9pieces, develop graphite tooling for holding 6x9 pieces, compress the cloth assembly to required thickness and then initially infiltrate it with boron nitride and then with SiC coatings both by chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) method to fabricate six partially infiltrated SiC/SiC composite panels. Panel specifications:# of cloth plies in each composite panel: Eight, Nominal open pore volume: ~30%, Panel size: 6x9X0.080, Interface coating composition: Boron nitride (BN), Interface coating thickness: <1 m NASA/GRC intends to purchase the items from Hyper-Therm High-Temperature Composites, Inc., Huntington Beach, CA, under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1)(i). This task is a continuation of current NASA project in using Hyper-Therm HTC developed technology for coatingfiber preforms. NASA uses these preforms for development of ceramic matrix composites. The items being procured are fabricated via a proprietary process of Hyper-Therm HTC. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. EST on 11/21/2012. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis.A determination by the Government NOT to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.
