Document Type: Special Notice Title: Next Generation Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Posted Date: Contracting Office Address: Office of the Chief Procurement Officer Washington, District of Columbia 20528 United States Description: Request for Information (RFI) - NEXT GENERATION PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT DUE: November 5, 2012 The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate, First Responders Group (S&T - FRG) is preparing a strategic plan for the development of next generation personal protective equipment (PPE) for the first responder disciplines (i.e. Fire, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services). The intent of the program is to develop goals for the development of an integrated PPE ensemble that provides multi-threat protection, increases the safety of first responders, and reduces the amount of equipment responders will be required to carry. It is envisioned that the technical areas that will assist in the development of the next generation PPE include, but are not limited to, the following: Respiratory protection Ballistics protection Stab/penetration protection Fire protection Gloves Communication Tracking and surveillance Safety/alarm technology Chemical/biological detection Chemical/biological protection Standards development Wearable power generation systems Materials Development Multi-threat protection S&T - FRG is looking for responses from interested parties from industry, academic institutions, research facilities, trade/profession groups, standard development organizations, and other government agencies to determine the level of interest from these groups to join S&T - FRG in open discussions regarding our concept for next generation PPE for the first responders of the future. This RFI is for information gathering and planning purposes only, and should not be construed as a Request for Proposal (RFP) or solicitation of an offer. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this RFI or otherwise pay for the information solicited.
