Description
The FAA will hold an industry day to provide the aircraft avionics manufacturing community information on the development efforts and plans of the new Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS X). ACAS X is intended to replace existing Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance Systems (TCAS II) and features advanced collision avoidance logic, as well as plug and play surveillance capabilities to allow for use of Automatic Dependent Surveillance and Broadcast (ADS-B) and other surveillance sources. The system will provide collision avoidance protection during Next Generation (NextGen) procedures with reduced separation such as Closely Spaced Parallel Operations (CSPO) and will extend collision avoidance protection to new user classes such as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The goal of the Industry day is to exchange information between Government and Industry regarding the FAA's timeline for ACAS X development including the upcoming FY13 flight demonstrations. Specifically, FAA will share the following with the vendor community: ACAS X Program Overview ACAS X System Overview Operational Performance System Integration Prototype Certification Perspective Path Forward ACAS X will not result in an FAA acquisition. However, the FAA's work will be foundational to the development of future collision avoidance Minimum Operational Performance Standards (MOPS) via RTCA. Vendors are encouraged to submit questions no later than September 28, 2012, via E-mail to neal.suchy@faa.gov. Additional presentations may be held in the future. The industry day will occur on October 11, 2012 at 8:30AM EDT at FAA Headquarters, 800 Independence Ave. SW, Washington DC, 20591 in the Bessie Coleman Auditorium. Interested parties are asked to contact Ms. Amy Kirkham at akirkham@regulus-group.com in order to confirm attendance. All communications and questions shall be directed to Neal Suchy by E-mail at: neal.suchy@faa.gov.
