Description
Modification 002 is to provide responses to questions received for the combined synopsis/solicitation N0017812R1022 and extend the closing date. Proposals must be submitted by 2:00 pm, 12 September 2012. Question 1. Is it okay to use multiple 36-port FDR switches or a single large IB switch? Answer: Yes. This will be dependent upon design, the number of nodes, and the number of fabrics. Question 2. Is it okay to over subscribe the IB network? If so, how much? Example: 2:1, 3:1, etc. Answer: At most, a 2:1, with a CBB of 20 Gbps would be considered. Question 3. What exactly do you mean by redundant system management fabric? Answer: No single-point of failure in the network/fabric used to manage any/all components of the cluster. From the admin node , to any of the following, depending on cluster design; a head-node, storage-node, rack-leader, or compute-node, should have redundant pathing. Question 4: Will you need any ethernet switching for cluster management? If so, do you prefer a large GbE switch or multiple. If multiple, how do you want the GbE switches connected to each other? Answer: This will be dependent upon design: how many nodes?; how many racks?; how many HBA/NICs per node? Question 5: Is it okay to use mulinode server nodes? Such as 4 servers in a 2U form factor? Answer: Form factor servers are not requested. A blade-architecture is specified. Question 6: Do you need rack cabinets? Answer: Yes. Question 7: What is your definition of "turn-key". Do you want the cluster installed onsite by the vendor? Do you want the nodes shipped outside the cabinet with the cabinet precabled? Do you want the cabinets to arrive with the nodes in them already? Answer: The cluster shall be delivered, installed, and configured per the system specifications. The system will be powered, in sequence, and have a fully operational cluster, with the specified software installed, configured, and working. The Government shall be able to verify, by installing an engineering application, launching a massively parallel job, and see it complete successfully. Question 8: Regarding the Detailed minimum specifications, question 4 indicates that the system should have 16 TB RAID 6 directly attached mass storage installed and configured. What does "Directly Attached" mean in this instance? Does it mean 16 TB per compute mode, or 16 TB's total? Answer: This means 16TB total. The specification asks for diskless nodes so this is the disk storage for the entire cluster.
