Description
The TSA Law Enforcement and Industy Training Division has conducted extensive research and determined that only one responsible source ( Remington) and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. LEITD Shotguns are all Remington Model 870s. No other make or model is currently utilized. The organizational support mechanism that has developed over time is entirely focused on this weapon system. This includes training conducted at the national academy level, armory support, and ammunition that has been tested in the Model 870 for function and accuracy. Introducing a new firearm into this support system would require these efforts to be duplicated at significant cost to the Government. There are also no other firearms that exhibit the same nomenclature and function as the Model 870. Cricital operational elements, such as the location of the safety and action release, are different on shotguns from other manufacturers. The primary purpose of these firearms is to protect law enforcement agents, and the people they protect, in violent situations. In these situations, agents rely on rote memory instilled through extensive and repetitive training. Changing or intermingling tactical shotguns introduces the potential for an extremely negative outcome in deadly force situations."
