Description
The Department of Veteran Affairs San Diego Healthcare System has procured services to perform Autopsy/Diener and Educational Services for Pathology and Laboratory Service located at 3350 La Jolla Village Drive, San Diego, CA 92161. I. Autopsy Assistants/Dieners service the Medical Center in multiple capacities: A.Assures that all necessary documentation is available, verifies that proper authorization for autopsy is at hand, and records all information necessary for autopsy records. B.Verifies that the body of the deceased is, in fact, the body to be autopsied, and makes all arrangements to schedule the autopsy. C.Prepares lab for autopsies including laying out supplies and instruments, transferring body to autopsy table, undressing and recording description of the body, flushing blood and body fluids from body. D.Prepares body for autopsy; weighs and measures human remains. E.Ensures proper handling, transfers, labeling and storing of specimens. F.Prepares body by suturing and washing deceased, leaving body in the best condition possible and placing body back within crypts (cooler). G.Responsible to clean and sterilize all instruments and maintain the morgue facilities including examination areas, autopsy bays, refrigeration units, and all other areas. Must conduct cleanup in accordance with health and safety regulations. H.Instruct residents in the proper procedures and protocols for evisceration techniques according to VA and any other applicable regulations. I.Participate in Post Autopsy Panels discussing findings and evaluations. J.Keeps work areas well stocked with necessary supplies and notifies appropriate personnel when inventory levels are low. Must keep all work areas clean and dispose of all waste appropriately. K.Follows all departmental policies regarding attendance, punctuality and health and safety. Report promptly to Pathologist any abnormal circumstances with equipments or other problems that may exist in a prompt manner. Maintains all logs, records, data, etc. in a legible and precise manner. II. General Conditions: A.Contractor Diener shall perform services in accordance with the ethical, professional, and technical standards of the healthcare industry as consistent with VA policy, regulations, and procedures.. B.The Contractor is required to maintain records that document competence/performance level of Contractor employees working on this contract in accordance with the Joint Commission and other regulatory body requirements. The Contractor will provide a current copy of the competence assessment checklist and annual performance evaluation to the COR at the time of contract award or upon request, for each Contractor employee working on this contract C.Where the contract does not require Joint Commission accreditation or other regulatory body requirements, the Contractor must perform the required work in accordance with Joint Commission standards. A copy of these standards may be obtained from the Joint Commission, One Renaissance Blvd., Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181. D.An autopsy schedule cannot be provided, as autopsies are scheduled and performed as needed. Diener will be notified a minimum of 2 hours before an autopsy is required. The intended contract period will be for one (1) year base to begin on or after August 15, 2012 with four (4) subsequent one-year renewals options. Azariah M.
