- The Department of Commerce, NOAA, National Weather Service (NWS) intends to negotiate, as a brand name justification, under authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Subpart 6.302 Other Than Full and Open Competition, with Quantum. The NWS Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has a need to replace an LTO-4 tape library that is not adequate to provide the Center with off-site storage to meet Department of Commerce (DOC) Certification and Accreditation (C&A) requirements. The existing tape autoloader does not have enough tape slots or up-to-date tape drive capability to produce clone tapes for off-site storage, so it is vital that this device be replaced. The new tape autoloader needs to be capable of storing at least 75Tb of native backup capacity over the next 3-5 years for CPC. The following are the tape autoloader specifications required. Tape Autoloader Specification: Quantities, Part Numbers, Descriptions: Qty 1; LSC18-CH5J-232H Quantum Scalar i80 Library, two LTO‐5 tape drive, 50 slots, 8Gb native Fibre Channel Qty 1; LSC18-URPS-000A Quantum Scalar i80 Redundant Power Supply Qty 1; LSC1S-UTDJ-L5HA Quantum Scalar i40/i80 Tape Drive Module, LTO‐5, 8Gb native Fibre Channel Qty 3; 3-03893-05 Quantum Fibre Channel Interface Cable, optical multimode 50 micron, LC‐to‐LC, 6.5 ft (2 m) Qty 1; SSC14-LS00-BL11 Quantum Scalar i40 Library, Includes Drives, Bronze Support Plan (5x9xNBD on‐site), Uplift, annual, zone 1 Qty 40; MR-L5MQN-BC Quantum data cartridge, LTO Ultrium 5, pre‐labeled. Must order in multiples of 20. (NAM/EMEA) Qty 5; MR-LUCQN-BC Quantum cleaning cartridge, LTO Ultrium Universal, prelabeled (NAM/EMEA) A comparison was performed on various LTO-5 tape autoloaders offered out in the industry and the Quantum was found to have the best value, ability to standardize on one manufacture, and provide a cost comparison given the requirements. To support this effort the acquisition of an upgraded tape autoloader is essential to maintain required backups of climatological data. The North American Industry Classification System for this acquisition is 423430.
