- THIS IS NOT A PRE-SOLICITATION NOTICE: Sources Sought Notice for Small Business Search The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Core Science Systems, Libraries Program Denver, CO, requires library services in support of circulation desk, interlibrary loan, and scientific field records archival functions. Background The USGS is a science organization that provides impartial information on the health of our ecosystems and environment, the natural hazards that threaten us, the natural resources we rely on, the impacts of climate and land-use change, and the core science systems that help us provide timely, relevant, and useable information. The USGS Libraries Program provides a national capability to support the scientific research of the USGS. The Librarys multi-disciplinary collection and associated services provides comprehensive access to scientific, geographical, and historical collections in print and electronic formats. The USGS Library is one of the worlds largest earth and natural sciences library systems containing more than 3 million items. The USGS Denver Library is one of four branch libraries that coordinate to provide library services to the scientists of the USGS Geological Survey, and by extension other federal and state agencies and the public. The Denver Library houses approximately 400,000 books and scientific reports as well as special collections containing 350,000 historical photos, 3000 feet of scientific field record materials, and thousands of maps and field observation notebooks. The library offers access to numerous commercial bibliographic and full-text services, with access to thousands of electronic journal titles. The USGS is seeking small business sources for that meets the following requirements: Scope Library Technician (Circulation and Interlibrary Loan) The USGS Library makes materials widely available for use through circulation, Interlibrary Loan, and document delivery services. The library circulates materials to USGS employees across the country and delivers electronic works on request via e-mail and secure websites. Materials are obtained from other libraries, document suppliers, and databases for use by USGS scientists. Requests and transaction workflows for circulation and interlibrary loan are performed using the librarys Horizon integrated library system, the OCLC national bibliographic utility, e-mail workflows, and OCLC ILLiad software. The circulation desk maintains organized collections and serves as primary point of contact for the Denver library for both on-site library patrons and off-site customers. Activities are performed under the guidelines for the USGS Library system and any locally developed procedures at the Denver Library. Archives Technician (USGS Field Records Collection) The USGS Field Records Collection is an archive of significant science records comprised of unpublished field notes, maps, correspondence, manuscripts, analysis reports, and other data created or collected by USGS Geology Discipline scientists over the last 130 years during field studies and other project work. Materials from more than 1200 scientists are being accessioned, organized, described, and indexed by scientist, project, geographic location, and geological terminology. Access points to the collection are provided through inventories, descriptive finding aids posted to the collection website, and cataloging records added to the online catalog. Materials are preserved and managed as federal records under USGS disposition schedules for records management. Research assistance is provided to assist customers in finding and using USGS field records materials, with occasional assistance provided in backing up the library reference desk. The USGS is in search of small business firms who are able to provide the above mentioned service. Small business firms who feel they can furnish the required service or its functional equivalent (based on criteria specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. This announcement constitutes only the notice, proposals are not being requested.
