- Description
- PURPOSE OF THIS NOTICE AND REQUEST: NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) seeks industry, academia, government and NASA interest in conducting small modular technology demonstration experiments (TDEs) on the exterior of International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Materials International Space Station Experiment-X (MISSE-X). The MISSE-X Project is currently developing the MISSE-X facility. The initial deployment of the MISSE-X payload to ISS is scheduled for 2016. The MISSE-X project will transfer control and operation of the MISSE-X facility to ISS Program beginning in 2017.A more detailed description of the MISSE-X project is included as an attachment to this RFI.The MISSE-X Project Office is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to obtain Letters of Interest from aerospace technology developers who are interested in using the MISSE-X facility beginning in 2017 and continuing throughout the life of ISS.The project office will use these letters to help assess the potential interest in the MISSE-X facility and to demonstrate industry, government, and academia support for MISSE-X on ISS. Letters should be submitted on organization letterhead and be signed by an appropriate representative with contact information. The Letters of Interest should also address each of the following areas, as applicable; (1) brief organizational background and area(s) of research, (2) experience with past MISSE deployments, (3) organizations interest in conducting space based research on MISSE-X in 2017 and beyond, (4) specific nature of your intended space based research on MISSE-X (5) support for why MISSE-X is a suitable platform for your research, (6) how the results of your research on MISSE-X will be used and any potential spin-offs or stakeholders, (7) a ROM estimate for the development of your research experiment, and finally, (8) potential partners or collaborators. RFI RESPONSE DATE: The Letters of Interest are requested by August 27, 2012. Information received after this date will only be considered if deemed in the Governments best interest. Please reference this RFI in your response. Respondents are cautioned to mark any information confidential if it is to be treated as proprietary. All electronic responses should be sent to the RFI POC, identified below. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. The purpose of this RFI is to determine aerospace technology developers level of interest in developing experiments to be flown on the MISSE-X facility as addressed above. Additional information, if forthcoming, will be synopsized in the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) and FedBizOps. It is the responsibility of potential users to monitor NAIS for the release of any additional information or synopsis. This RFI is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for any information solicited. Since this is a RFI, no evaluation letters and/or results will be issued to the respondents. POINTS OF CONTACT: Questions of a general nature should be directed to Stuart Cooke, MISSE-X Project Manager. Questions related to R&D for technology demonstration experiments should be directed to Sheila Thibeault, MISSE-X PI, and Kim de Groh, MISSE-X Co-PI. RFI General Point of Contact: Stuart Cooke, Stuart.A.Cooke@nasa.gov, R&D Point of Contacts: Sheila Thibeault, Sheila.A.Thibeault@nasa.gov or Kim de Groh, Kim.K.Degroh@nasa.gov.
