Description
This synopsis/solicitation has been posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) page located at http://wps.eps.gov and the Navy Electronic Commerce Online (NECO) site located at http://www.neco.navy.mil. Please feel free to use either site to access information posted by the Naval Sea Systems Command. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Philadelphia intends to procure services on a SMALL BUSINESS SET ASIDE BASIS to provide Initial In-Shop Inspections of Stern Tube Shafts and Propeller Shafts. Before inspection contractors must remove all covering, including GRP, fairing compound, and corrosion preventive paint/primer, as applicable, on the shaft body and sleeve end prep areas by mechanical means. Remove all residual preservative from the flanges as well as any corrosion preventive paint/primer. Remove all oil and/or grease from the shaft surfaces, including the bore. The Stern Tube Shaft and Propeller Shaft inspections shall include: Remove covering, including GRP, fairing compound, and corrosion preventive paint/primer. Remove all residual preservative from the flanges as well as any corrosion preventive paint/primer. Visually inspect the outer steel surfaces of the shaft for areas of rust/corrosion. Accomplish a visual inspection on the entire outer surface (shaft and sleeves), including spigots, counter bores, flange bolt holes, and o-ring sealing surfaces. Visually inspect the shaft bore for corrosion, pitting, scoring, and any other defects, especially in way of the valve rod guides. Accomplish a magnetic particle test (MT) or liquid penetrant test (PT). Accomplish a liquid penetrant test (PT). Contractor shall re-fiberglass shaft prior to re-packaging. This is a pre-solicitation and a full solicitation will be available for download on August 17, 2012. No questions will be taken until the full solicitation is released.
