- This is not an announcement of a Solicitation. The U.S. Geological Survey needs to assess industry interest and capability to provide a media destruction bundle that meets the specifications listed below. In accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 52.215-3, Request for Information for Solicitation and Planning Purposes (October 1997), this notice is issued solely for information and planning purposes. It does not constitute a Request for Quotations (RFQ). The Department of the Interior (DOI)/U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) intends to assess the responses to inform its decision-making. This notice is not to be construed as a commitment by the government to contract for supplies. The government will not pay for any information provided as a result of this notice and will not recognize or reimburse any cost associated with RFI submission. Responses to this RFI will not affect a potential offeror's ability to respond to any RFQ that might follow. Please ensure that any sensitive or protected information is marked as such and the government will ensure this information is not released externally. The overarching objective for this RFI is information gathering and not development of possible government acquisition of products or services. The USGS is performing market research for a Degausser and Hard Drive Destroyer that, due to security requirements, must meet the following specifications: Hard Drive Destroyer: -Must be able to destroy all hard drives regardless of their size, format or type up to 1.85" including desktop and laptop drives. -Must be able to automatically bend, break and mangle the hard drive - including the data platters upon which data is stored. -Must have a safety interlock prevents operation of the hard drive crusher while door is open to protect operators. -Must have an emergency stop button. Degausser: -Must meet NSA's 9-12 Storage Device Declassification Manual. According to the NSA's 9-12 Storage Device Declassification Manual, magnetic tape media and hard drives must be sanitized using an NSA approved degausser or an EPA approved incineration facility. -Must be listed on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List-Degausser as an approved item. -Must meet the Department of Defense requirement for destroying magnetically recorded data on hard disk drives up to 5300 Oe. -Must be able to be installed on a tabletop, rack mounted as well as able to be deployed in areas where space is limited. -Must be able to degauss hard drives up to 1" height. -Must be able to degauss other media such as DLT III& IV, LTO (1,2,3), 8mm, VHS, S-VHS; " tape, floppy disks and other removable magnetic disks. Interested parties who believe they can meet these requirements are invited to submit supportive technical documentation, not to exceed one (1) page. Responses should include the following information: company name, address, point of contact, email address, business type and approximate cost information (including shipping to Reston, VA).
