- THIS IS A NOTICE OF INTENT TO AWARD A SOLE-SOURCE CONTRACT AND IS NOT AR EQUEST FOR COMPETITIVE PROPOSALS. The intent of this notice is for informational purposes only. The USDA, ARS, WBSC, Mid South Area, intends to solicit a quote and enter into a contract with Gerstel, Inc., 701 Digital Drive, Suite, J, Linthicum, MD 21090. This sole-source procurement under the authority of FAR 6.302-1(a)(2), only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. The research unit currently requires a chemical analysis system that consists of a preparative fraction collecting system coupled with a GC-MS, providing an integrated volatile collecting system using GS-MS and utilizes a unique cooled injection system as well as a special sampler. The combination of these two techniques allows the controlled introduction of larger amounts of sample on column than would normally be possible. Purchase GC-MS with fraction collector. 3. Description of Supplies/Services. A chemical analysis system consists of a preparative fraction collection system coupled with a GC-MS. One great challenge in study of insect chemical ecology is separation and collection of semiochemicals. Since many such compounds arc at trace level with related chemical structures, a very efficient system that integrates separation and collection is needed. HPLC is commonly used for that purpose; however, HPLC is very often not powerful enough to separate and purify insect semiochemicals that have very similar chemical structures. GC-MS usually has higher separation potver than HPI,C. A GC-MS coupled with a fraction collector will greatly facilitate the research on insect serniochemicals. Many companies seil GC-MS, such as Agilent, PerkinElemer and Shimadzu; however, GERSTEL is the only company that can provide an integrated volatile collecting system using GC-MS. In addition to the volatile fraction collection, the GERSTEL system utilizes a unique cooled injection system as well as a special sampler. The combination of these two techniques allows the controlled introduction of larger amounts of sample on column than would normally be possible. This can greatly speed up the collection process. 4. It was an Agilent sell representative who referred us to GERSTEL. Searching the internet, consulting other companies and discussing with other scientists all led us to GERSTEL. We have contacted several leading manufacturers in GC-MS market, such as Agilent, PerkinElmer, Shimadzu and Thermo Scientific, no one sells GC-MS with a fraction collector.
