- Sources Sought The Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 8), James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, Tampa, FL is currently seeking firms, Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, Veteran Owned Small Business, Hub zone, 8(A), Woman Owned Small Business OR Small Business with the ability to provide the following: System that integrates Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) The system is capable of being installed and operated by caregivers or the patient's family at home. The system is based on visually evoked EEG potentials (VEP/P300) and enables the user to sequentially select characters from a keyboard-like matrix on the screen just by paying attention to the target for several seconds. The majority of subjects should be able to use the system after a short period time with a reasonable performance: A spelling rate of 5 to 10 characters per minute. The system should have an intelligent algorithm (step by step procedure for calculations) to detect the idling state so that the system only selects characters when the user pays attention to the system. Besides writing a text the patient can also use the system to trigger an alarm, let the computer speak the written text, print out or copy the text into an e-mail or to send commands to external devices. The system will include active electrode system, a portable EEG acquisition system and a notebook or netbook computer with specific software installed. James A. Haley Veteran's Hospital will require installation and on-site training of the system. Potential number of individuals attending the training is approximately 7 individuals. Interested individuals shall provide a capability statement, to include complete address, phone & fax number of contact.
