- Description
- The current contract with EXP Pharmaceutical Services is in its final option year and will expire on 30 September 2012. This bridge contract is required to maintain uninterrupted coverage to the customers in the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Pharmaceutical Prime Vendor programs, providing a means for returning expired and unneeded pharmaceuticals as well as disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste until implementation of the new, competitively awarded Reverse Distribution contracts are in place. The proposed acquisition will result in the award of a bridge contract that will have an effective period beginning 1 October 2012 and will run no later than 30 September 2013. Coverage for DoD customers will end no later than 30 September 2013; coverage for DVA customers will end 28 February 2013 due to the anticipated start of a separate contracting initiative by the VA National Acquisition Center to cover these customers. This bridge contract with the staggered expiration dates of no longer than 151 days (DVA) and 365 days (DoD) is necessary to facilitate the entire process involved in awarding and implementing a competitive, follow-on contract with multiple awards. The anticipated award date for the follow-on contract is on or before 1 July 2013.
