- Description
- The Water Supply Water Resources Division at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency located at 26 West Martin Luther King Boulevard, Cincinnati, OH, requires a Laser Ablation (LA) system to be coupled with an existing Inductively Coupled Argon Plasma Mass Spectrometer system (ICP-MS) for drinking water research studies trace metal analysis. The research application will be corrosion scale analysis on cross-sectioned pipe samples. The contractor shall furnish and install in our laboratory space, a LA system and couple it to a Thermo Elemental X7 ICP-MS equipped with an external trigger adapter, that meets or exceeds all of the following specifications: I.Laser Specifications A.Instrument shall have Nd:YAG laser @213nm with: 1.A minimum fluence of 20 J/cm2. 2.A variable laser energy output 1 ? 100%. 3.Laser repetition pulse rate of 1?20 Hz. 4.Variable spot size range of 10 ? 200?m minimum. B.Instrument shall have a software controlled Helium mass flow controller. II.Optical Interface Specifications A.High resolution video imaging system shall be capable of <2 ?m resolution. B.Software controlled polarized illumination. III. Control systems and stage requirements A.The system shall have laser system control and imaging software provided. B.The system shall be capable of triggering the existing ICP-MS. C.The system shall have a PC controller with a 19? LCD display. D.The stage shall have a standard format stage for smaller samples as well as a large format stage. E.The system shall include any necessary cooling systems. A firm-fixed-price purchase order will be issued. The purchase order award will be made using best value methodology. This is a full and open competition requirement. All prospective offerors are required to be registered in the Central Contractor Registration system in order to be eligible for contract award. See the website www.ccr.gov for information about registration. It is anticipated that the complete solicitation will be posted on or about June 12, 2012 on the World Wide Web (www.epa.gov).
