Description
THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO. 2 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR MACHINING TANK HEMISPHERES. Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to answer questions received from industry and to extend the response date to May 31, 2012. Q1: It is our understanding that the machining required is for the outside diameter only. Please confirm. A1: Machining is for outside only. Q2: We noticed a hole in the top of the sphere. What is the size of this hole? Also, if such a hole does not exist in all tank hemispheres, may we put a rough hole in each hemisphere for holding purposes? If so, what is the allowable hole size? A2: Hole is 3/4' diameter right now; it can be opened up to a max of 5' diameter. If the hole is opened up, it shall be machined to a final diameter of 5'.05; updated drawing shows the updated diameter callout. (See Attached Drawing at: http://procurement.jsc.nasa.gov/NNJ12436388Q/29102981_B.PDF ) Q3: May we bit into the bottom edge (inside)? This assumes the two halves (hemispheres) will be welded together. A3: No, this may put marks or gouges on the tank that become the start of cracks. Q4:May we tack some blocks on to the hemispheres? We will cut them off after machining and provided the machined hemispheres in an excellent condition. A4: No, tack welds may lead to the start of residual stress due the local melting and solidifying around the tack weld. The due date for receipt of offers is not extended. Companies shall provide the information stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on May 16, 2012.
