Description
SLAC seeks vendors that can provide the following: ONe (1) each of Plane Grating Monochromator with the following General Specifications: 1. Overall system, including complete motion envelope and ancillary hardware, must fit within a circular footprint of 2.0 meters diameter centered at the intersection between the beam centerline and grating rotation axis, as highlighted in Figure 1. The incoming beam is 1071 ± 5 mm above grade, and overall height cannot exceed 1.0 meters above the incoming beam height without prior approval. 2. The proposed monochromator is similar to the design by Itou, Harada and Kita [1] in which a plane mirror in front of the VLS grating is used to cancel the defocus term for all photon energies by illuminating the grating at the correct angle of incidence. 3. The proposed monochromator shall use the Riemer and Torge [2] approximation for achieving the combined rotation and translation of the plane mirror. 4. The monochromator shall accommodate one plane mirror and three gratings with different lengths. This lenghts will be specified and defined in the formal Request for Proposal. 5. The monochromator will cover the energy range 20 to 200 eV with optimized performance up to 150 eV. 6. Energy selection shall be achieved by a computer controlled scanning mechanism that allows highly precise rotations of the plane mirror and plane grating as required for coordinated point by point energy scans. Real time motor synchronization is not required except as necessary to avoid hardware collisions during moves. 7. The system shall have all necessary features for lifting and access to internal components. All lifts must be accomplished with an overhead clearance of 2.6 meters. 8. Encoders are required on all motorized motions. The encoding may be either incremental or absolute. If incremental, a home position must be provided to recover positioning to the tolerance identified for the specific motion. 9. The principle components of the monochromator are the mirror and grating scanning mechanism, the vacuum chamber, the cooling system, the support structure, the optical slit, and the control system. Each of these components is specified in detail in following sections. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTE. VENDORS INTERESTED IN BEING CONSIDERED AS A POTENTIAL SOURCE SHOULD IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AS AN "INTERESTED PARTY" VIA THE FBO PORTAL. DO NOT CONTACT THE SUBCONTRACT ADMINISTRATOR.
