Description

The government intends to make a sole source award to Abiomed, inc. at 22 Cherry Hill Drive, Danvers, MA 01923-2575. They are the sole manufacturer and distributor of the Impella LV Assist Device Catheters. The Impella Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) offered by Abiomed provide temporary circulatory support in case of severe left ventricular failure, during high-risk percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs), or during high-risk angioplasties. LVADs support a patients' cardiac function, while allowing a surgeon to perform the procedure with less risk. During some procedures, the heart is deprived of blood flow, which can result in heart failure or even death. Many high-risk PCIs are emergency procedures, where the primary goal is restoration of blood flow as quickly as possible. The Impella LVADs support short-term circulatory support and meets the following criteria: 1.It is a circulatory support device that is percutaneously inserted. 2.It provides direct, active unloading of the left ventricle. 3.It does not require atrial (transseptal) puncture as part of the insertion procedure. 4.It employs a micro axial pump which is placed in the aorta by means of a catheter. 5.It provides single-vessel access through the femoral artery. All parties offering equivalent equipment are encouraged to respond no later than May 15, 2012 by 12:00 PM EST.
