Description
Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD), has a need for the demonstration of non destructive stave removal from a CAVES Component Test Piece (CTP). The demonstration will require a high degree of precision with water-jet cutting and experience with the urethanes to be removed. This process can only be successfully accomplished by a company that has a history of working with the specific DURA materials to be cut, an engineering staff experienced with work on US NAVY submarine prototypes and material systems, and that already has a working prototype cutter or prototype cutter components in their Research & Development (R&D) pipeline. NSWCCD intends to conduct a non-competitive procurement with AK Services, Everett, MA 02149., which has worked extensively with these materials in the past, is familiar with the NAVY treatment systems, and is experienced with stave removal. AK Services, Inc has over 20 years experience in the field of DURA material removal from US NAVY submarines in shipyard environments. General Dynamics Electric Boat Corporation in Groton, CT, and Norfolk Naval Shipyard, in Portsmouth, VA have both contracted AK Services, Inc to service multiple classes of US NAVY assets, including VIRGINIA Class, and SEAWOLF Class submarines. Through this work, AK Services, Inc has become very experienced in multiple DURA material systems and the unique technical challenges each system presents. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all responsible sources may submit a capability statement, proposal, or quotation, which shall be considered by the agency. All submissions received within fifteen days from the publication date of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. Please reference RFQ N00167-12-T-0036 with all correspondence.
